Willow Sculptor - Willow
Artist
Laury Dizengremel Starting in 2010 and continuing until the present, delving into willow sculpture has opened up a whole new horizon for me as an artist. Bronze (and other media) having been my material of choice for decades, re-defining myself partially as a willow artist was quite an adventure! There
are so many uses to which pliable reeds of willow (or osier) can
be put. From random weave "objet d'art" to wall reliefs depicting fish
or butterflies, from large scale figures for example willow animal
sculptures of horses and deer, to geometric forms, from
utilitarian to whimsical-aesthetic.
A few examples of my willow art / willow sculpture are below: Immediately above, two of my willow horses and my willow stag were featured at Blenheim International Horse Trials in 2013. I grabbed the opportunity on the morning of take-down to move them from the Members Enclosure where they were to the main arena with Blenheim Palace profiled behind. Please contact me by e-mail ask@laurydizengremel.com to discuss purchasing any of my willow artworks. Below is the very first one of my willow horses... I created this willow horse sculpture in July 2012 - the wettest month of July which England has seen in decades... Luckily the sun came out on the day I asked a young neighbour to pose on it before removing it from Belvoir Castle. I displayed it for one magic evening and day, to coincide with the launch of a new book by the Duchess of Rutland. The sculpture was then displayed at Doddington Hall during the Sculpture at Doddington Event running from beginning of August to early September 2012, before being purchased by the Duchess of Rutland who placed it beside a small lake in an area of the estate called "Frog Hollow". This is where the shoot guests gather for Elevenses. The photo above shows it below Belvoir Castle before the sun came out, so horse and surroundings blend softly in a harmony of greens. My first wall relief - a randow weave of osier I think could be entitled "Bursting" (COLLECTION OF THE ARTIST) Red osier sculpture / relief of a "Dreamcatcher" fish (SOLD) Yellow and red osier relief sculpture of a butterfly: "Montana Wings" (SOLD) Yellow osier willow wall mounted relief of a "Blackfoot River Fish" (SOLD) |
